Subscription top-up cards are Hoichoi’s first-of-its-kind innovation in the OTT industry, and they’re aimed at movie lovers. It plans to digitally premiere films just ahead of theatrical release, reducing barriers for entry and broadening the user base. Currently, Hoichoi has subscribers in more than 100 countries. The top-up card is available at kiosks in malls, movie theaters, and small kirana stores, and is already gaining traction on Netflix.
The content slate of Hoichoi is also impressive. It features 25 original series and literary adaptations, as well as popular movies and television shows. Hoichoi also offers dubbed streams in a variety of languages. In fact, the company is only a few years old, which means it’s poised for exponential growth. It could become as big as its parent company, SVF, in 10 years. By 2020, it is estimated that 500 million Indians will watch online videos. India is the second largest market for OTT, after the US. The subscription market is rapidly growing, and is expected to reach Rs 4,000 crore within the next two years.
